Cuban Montecristo #2 Cigar Review

In the realm of Cuban cigars, there is one brand that is known in every corner of the Earth, and one size that remains the symbol of this great industry. That cigar is the Cuban Montecristo and that size is the #2 torpedo. The Cuban Montecristo #2 is the most popular and recognizable cigar in the world, and after smoking one it is easy to see why. A giant in both size and quality, check out our Montecristo No 2 review below.

The Cuban Montecristo #2 Cigar is hand rolled, crafted from the finest aged tobaccos from the best fields of Cuba, particularly the famed Pinar del Rio region. It is a Cuban Puro, as all Cuban cigars are, meaning it only uses tobaccos from Cuba. The filler and binder tobaccos are carefully layered and bunched together to create a tight fit, yet open enough for an amazing draw. Its silky wrapper is light brown in color, with hardly any blemishes, and is smooth to the touch.

From the first puff, you are introduced to a bevy of wonderful flavors. Its complexity is only rivaled by its subtlety. Notes of light spice and pepper blend effortlessly with notes of almonds and cedar. It starts off as a solid mellow to medium body, but slowly it increases in strength and flavor with each passing puff.

When you hit the middle half of this amazing Cuban cigar, it transitions to a terrific medium to full body with wonderful notes of white and black pepper along with a dash of leather and cinnamon. Its aroma remains rich and enticing while its increased strength doesn’t add any harsh flavor or overbearing strong notes. When you finish smoking it, your first thought is, I want another.

The Montecristo #2 Cuban cigar has remained at the top of the industry for nearly a century. Although it is over 80 years old, it was named the best cigar of the year in 2013, showing its consistency though out the years.

The Cuban Montecristo #2 is a mainstay in Cuban cigar stores around the world. However, right here in the US, we have plenty of options for something similar. The Padron 1964 Anniversary Torpedo is comparable both in its size, shape, and complex profile. If you do get the chance to pick up an authentic Cuban cigar, the Cuban Montecristo #2 is a must have.
