Black Works Studio Sindustry Cigar Review

James Brown, who is the owner of Black Label Trading Co has launched the Black Works Studio cigars which is the second of two brands from the Rock star manufacturer. By 2015, Brown had launched Black Works Studio, so he could allow his artistic side to flourish to new heights!

With a handful of delicious cigars under the Black Works Studio line, one specific cigar I have smoked a handful of times is the Black Works Studio Sindustry. Launching in 2018, this cigar was manufactured in Esteli, Nicaragua, at the Fabrica Oveja Negra factory where all cigars under Black Label Trading Company and Black Works Studio are created.

The size I smoked for this review was the 6.25 x 48 Toro. With only three sizes available in this stick, I’ve tried each size at least once and the Toro is by far my favorite size in the Sindustry.

Without further ado, let’s dive into my full review of this delicious smoke from James Brown and Black Works Studio.

Notes on the Cold Draw

I’ve found using a punch cut to my cigars allows for me to get the most smoke output with my cigars. So, after I punch cut this smoke, I took a few puffs on the cold draw and tasted nothing but spice.

Along with the spice it had a touch of wood and the tiniest hint of chocolate. The spicy pepper note hit my taste buds like it never has the two previous times I smoked this gem. I was interested to see why this time it changed.

Notes on First Third

The first ten minutes of the first third were exactly what I tasted in the cold draw. The flavors of chocolate, spice, and wood were so predominant, but they all worked extremely well with one another.

As I was coming to the end of the first third, the wood and chocolate started to dissipate a little bit while the spice was still very prominent.

Notes on the Second Third

Once I entered the second third, I detected a handful of new flavor notes, including caramel and dried fruit. This really upped the ante with my palate and I’m glad to say that the culmination of the dried fruit and wood balanced out perfectly.

For a moment, I was able to enjoy the chocolate tones until they vanished before I got to the final third. The chocolate and caramel had a delicious balance.

Notes on the Final Third

Nothing changed whatsoever when I entered the final third. Dried fruit, caramel, wood, and spice were very much still alive and kicking from the second third. I’m finding with fuller-bodied smokes that they are packed to the brim with spice.

Strength Profile of the Sindustry

With perfect construction and burn throughout, I was able to really detect the strength of this cigar. Sometimes if I have to re-light a smoke two to three times, it will mess with the profile; whether it’s the flavor or strength profile.

However, I can say with absolute certainty that the Sindustry from Black Works Studio is a full-bodied smoke in all sense of the word. This was one cigar where I needed to snack in the middle of it so I didn’t get too lightheaded or feel weak as one may do while smoking a strong smoke.

Pairings for the Sindustry

I went with an unusual pairing for me this week when I smoked the Sindustry. I’m not a fan of iced tea by any means. Whether its sweetened or unsweetened I do not like it whatsoever.

But a colleague of mine told me I would not be disappointed if I paired it alongside a cigar that’s rich and full-bodied such as the Sindustry.

So, I had this smoke at the lounge next door to my job and had two glasses of iced tea. I was ready to try something new. I’ll tell you it did not disappoint one bit. I hate that my co-worker was right. The flavor balance of the iced tea and the dried fruit in the cigar worked so well together.

I highly recommend this pairing if you haven’t done so thus far.

Final Thoughts

Most of the cigars I review I’ve already had once or twice in the three years I’ve been here. But when I smoked those cigars, I wasn’t in the “reviewing” mindset. So, when I was able to sit down and put my review hat on, I really found myself enjoying the heck out of this smoke.

I also realized I needed to smoke more from Black Works Studios and Black Label Trading Co. I feel like they're underrated and some of their smokes fly under the radar with nobody paying attention.

Available in three different sizes that come in a box of 20, the Sindustry ranges from $180.00-$190.00 a box. Making it it’s MSRP price $9.00-$10.00 per cigar, which is the average price for a boutique brand these days.

If you’re a full-bodied cigar lover and want something that catches your eye, then the Sindustry by Black Works Studios is the one for you.
