Here’s something that’ll catch your attention. The Las Calaveras Edicion Limitada 2025 just landed. It’s the 13th year Crowned Heads has been pulling at our heartstrings with this tribute series. Every year, they honor people close to the company who’ve passed away by crafting something unique and special. This time around, they’ve done something interesting by bringing back the Mexican San Andres wrapper for only the second time since the series began. The last time we saw San Andres in Las Calaveras was way back in 2018.
The Las Calaveras is Crowned Heads’ annual love letter to people close to the brand. The name translates to “the skulls,” drawing inspiration from the Day of the Dead traditions, or Dia de Muertos, where participants celebrate rather than mourn those who’ve passed. Since 2014, they’ve delivered something new in their Las Calaveras series, including the 2025 limited-edition cigar.
They’ve managed to do something unique this time around. When you hear “San Andres wrapper,” your mind probably jumps to darker maduro shade color the wrapper is known for. But Crowned Heads threw a curveball. They selected a mid-priming San Andres leaf that is brighter than most Mexican wrappers. It also completely changes how the cigar smokes. Where darker San Andres wrappers might throw heavier pepper and earthy flavors, this Colorado-shaded wrapper allows the flavors to be fully appreciated.
The San Andres wrapper covers a Nicaraguan binder and all-Nicaraguan filler. These beauties are constructed at My Father Cigars S.A. in Esteli, Nicaragua, the same place that’s been handling Las Calaveras production since day one, so you can imagine the quality is top of the line. Your palate can expect espresso, coffee, and toffee throughout the medium-to-full-bodied experience.
The series features four different vitolas. They include the Las Calaveras LC52 5x52, Las Calaveras LC54 6x54, Las Calaveras LC56 5x56, and the Petite Lancero 6.5x40. The three cigars are available in boxes of 24 and a 4-count sampler. The 4-count sampler includes one of each cigar along with the sampler exclusive Petite Lancero. The box packaging tells its own story too. Each 24-count box arranges the cigars in three rows of eight. It’s meant to symbolize life’s progression from beginning to middle to end. It’s a small detail that reinforces why this series exists in the first place.
These gorgeous cigars are made in limited production runs. With only 1,500 boxes made for each 24-count box and an extra 3,000 for the samplers, you’ll need to act fast if you want to try these incredible sticks. If you’re new to this line or are just starting to branch into stronger blends, you can try the sampler before you get a box. For any seasoned fans or aficionados, Crowned Heads created an incredible product for you to add to your collection.
