Plasencia Cosecha 146 Cigar Review

In 2017, Plasencia Cigars announced a new cigar that would be shipping out the same year that would be paying homage to the company's long, illustrious presence. Plasencia cigars first began in Cuba back in 1865. This cigar celebrates the crop used to make up this delicious smoke and not necessarily the company’s beginning.

Cosecha translates to “harvest” in Spanish, and the “146” signifies the number in which this specific crop was harvested for this batch specifically.

Manufactured at the Tabacos de Oriente in Honduras, the Plasencia Cosecha 146 is the company’s very first cigar to be introduced in their Cosecha series. This is just yet another homage CEO Nestor Plasencia wanted to pay to his ancestors that built such a profound company we’ve all come to love.

This was only my second time smoking something from Plasencia Cigars. I had the Alma Fuerte when I first started in the business back in 2019, so I was extremely excited to try this cigar before summer ended.

Pre-Light Draw Experience

I used a punch cut for this smoking session. I find punch cuts allow for more smoke to come through, and you really get to detect flavors you may not have if you cut your cigar with a V-Cut or a Straight Cut.

So, before I lit up this bad boy, I took a few cold draw puffs. What I detected were subtle hints of salted caramel and cocoa. These two specific flavor notes are some of my favorite flavor notes I like to have on the tip of my tongue when smoking.

I was interested to see what else I would detect once I lit this cigar up and really got into it.

First Third Flavor Notes

Ten minutes into the first third, the cocoa flavor note disappeared instantly. Caramel was extremely prominent throughout the entire smoke. One flavor I wasn’t expecting but was pleasantly surprised with was a floral aroma.

The mixture of the floral aroma and caramel really worked well together. The outpour of the smoke wasn’t overly excessive as well. So far, my smoking experience was a nice one.

Second Third Flavor Notes

The second third remained at bay and was not crazy. A hint of almond came into the picture at the forty-minute mark. It didn’t overpower the floral or caramel, rather it complimented the caramel very nicely to the point it seemed like a nice dessert treat rather than a cigar.

Final Third Flavor Notes

As I entered the final third, a touch of cinnamon came through to balance the caramel and floral tone perfectly. The taste of almonds seemed to last for a moment in time but worked extremely well when it was present.

One nice treat was the touch of cocoa that came back in my final third. I assumed it disappeared after the cold draw, but once it came back it was a great addition to the mixture of floral aroma and the caramel that remained from the first third.

Strength

This cigar is extremely mellow and meek! By the looks of it, I thought it would have been more powerful than it was.

But with the Cosecha 146 being extremely mellow and medium, this is a perfect cigar to smoke first thing in the morning or a perfect nightcap for you to enjoy.

Pairings

I decided to smoke this gem on my lunch break during the week. I had a corn beef sandwich, with chips, and a Dr. Pepper before smoking the Cosecha 146. As I was smoking the cigar, I decided to have another Dr. Pepper, alongside my favorite candy, Peanut M&M’s.

The sweetness of the soda and candy really complimented the flavor notes and tobaccos within this smoke.

Next time I enjoy this cigar, I’d like to pair it alongside a coffee, or a whiskey neat to see how different the cigar may taste with other pairings.

In Conclusion

The 70-minute smoke time for this Plasencia cigar review was a great experience from start to finish. Going into this, I rarely smoked anything from Plasencia before, but after enjoying this smoke, I’ll be making it a point to smoke more of them moving forward.

Available in five different sizes, that come in a box of 10, as well as a box of 20, you can get the Plasencia Cosecha for an extremely affordable price. The prices for the boxes range from $99.00 to $215.00, making one single Cosecha 146 go for $10.75.

So, if you’re looking for a cigar that is under the radar, placid to mellow in taste, and extremely affordable, the Plasencia Cosecha 146 is a cigar for you! For more information, check out our Plasencia Cosecha 146 review:
