One of the best Honduran puros to ever grace my palate, the Plasencia Cosecha 149 is a celebration of the Plasencia family’s top-shelf tobaccos. For generations, the Plasencia family has been harvesting tobacco around the world, from the Cuba to Nicaragua to Honduras and back. For Cosecha 149, all the tobaccos come from Plasencia’s 149th harvest since the first plantings way back in 1865.

Before the family kicked off its own luxury cigar brand Plasencia 1865, the Plasencia family was famous for not only being a top-notch cigar maker for other brands, but also for supplying much of the industry with much of its tobaccos. Nowadays, the Plasencia family gets a ton of accolades for its Nicaraguan-made cigars and Nicaraguan tobaccos, but the family also has a prolific presence north of the border in Honduras.

By exclusively using tobaccos from the Plasencia’s 149th harvest in Honduras, which took place in 2014, the Cosecha 149 brings some much-deserved attention to the Honduran side of the Plasencia’s business. Hand rolled into three sizes that are named after Plasencia’s Honduran farms, Cosecha 149 is blended with masterfully aged long fillers from Jamastran, Olancho, and Talanga bunched into a hearty binder from Jamastran and covered by a top-shelf Olancho San Agustin with a deep chocolate-brown shade.

The depth and richness of Honduran tobaccos are put on full display, providing my palate with a complex medium-full bodied tapestry of baking spice, leather, coffee, black pepper, cocoa, and an earthy tobacco sweetness. With flavors this good delivered with top-notch construction, I like to save my Cosecha 149 cigars for the most special of occasions.
