With this enormously popular diversion from his famous ACID brand, Jonathan Drew set out to create his first traditional, Cuban-style cigar—and, boy, did he succeed! Starting with an aged blend of long-filler tobaccos from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic, and a Mexican binder, he chose a stunning Ecuador Connecticut wrapper to complete the recipe. I found this to be a creamy-sweet smoke with mellow hints of pepper, cedar, and spice. The cigar burned slowly and evenly, and the aroma had a similar sweetness found on many sticks from that forbidden island 90 miles south of Miami. And if you’re a thrifty herfer like me, you’ll find the affordable price of Chateau Real very appealing.
