Trinidad Espiritu Cigars were made to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Trinidad brand whose stored roots began at Cohiba's exclusive El Laguito factory in Havana . These non-Cuban Trinidad’s where reinvented by legendary master blenders, Rafael Nodal of Aging Room fame , and famous third-generation Cuban-born cigarmaker AJ Fernandez. Along with honoring 50 years of excellence, the brand also gives a nod to the late ‘60s and early ‘70s that the company referred to as the ‘golden years’ of Caribbean Tobacco. The original Espiritu was a gem of a smoke that utilized a Nicaraguan puro blend of the finest aged Cuban seed tobaccos. After lighting one, I was totally consumed by a rich, full bodied smoke whose robust earthy and peppery flavors, backed by hints of, leather, and cinnamon, easily rivaled the quality, taste, ad sweet aroma, of every Cuban stick in my humidor. A couple of years later, Trinidad Espiritu Series No. 2 cigars were released, and much to my delight it was another collaboration between Nodal and Fernandez. This time around instead of honoring Cuba, these two industry all stars gave a nod to the nation of Brazil and the rich tobacco that grows there. Trinidad Espiritu Series No. 2 features a rare and flavorful Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper that surrounds a Nicaraguan binder and a core of fully aged fillers from Brazil and Nicaragua. I was greeted by another complex full- bodied smoke, this time laced with luscious notes of earth, hints of chocolate, and leather, around a core of sweetness and spice. In conclusion: The Trinidad Espiritu experience is the perfect choice for any full bodied cigar fan looking to fill a humidor with two distinctly delicious blends from two of the top cigarmakers in the premium cigar industry today!
